Vandals’ regular-season finale may affect seeding

The Spokesman-Review

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men’s basketball team can secure as high as the sixth seed in next week’s Western Athletic Conference tournament in its home and regular-season finale against Utah State tonight. Tipoff at the Cowan Spectrum is at 7:05.

The Vandals (8-19, 5-10) also could finish seeded seventh. If they do secure the sixth seed, though, their reward could be a first-round game against WAC tournament host New Mexico State on Thursday if final regular-season games play out as they should. The Vandals’ worst WAC loss came at NMSU (88-49) in early February.

The good news is the Vandals avoided the tournament play-in game between the eighth and ninth seeds with their road sweep last week at Hawaii and San Jose State.

It’s Senior Night for Idaho. The Vandals will honor Clyde Johnson, Michael Crowell and Darin Nagle, the former North Idaho College standout by way of Potlatch.

USU (22-9, 11-4) stayed in the hunt for a share of the WAC title by knocking off Boise State 88-69 on Thursday.
