Distinguished employess honored

Spokane Public Schools has recently recognized its Distinguished Classified Employees of the Year.

JoAnn Hagen, an instructional assistant at Madison Elementary School, was nominated for this honor by eight different people for her work with the students.

Rosanna Partridge is an instructional assistant at Regal Elementary School and has worked for the district for more than 20 years. She has recently been working one-on-one with a high-needs student who has made significant growth.

Steve Butt is an audio-visual support technician with the district. He has been known to arrive early and stay late for many audio-visual set-ups and wants to make sure he’s there if there are any difficulties with the equipment.

Dick Gardner is the support operator’s foreman and has been moving massive amounts of furniture under tight deadlines due to the recent major renovation projects in the district.

Scholarship information program

Spokane Public Schools will present information about the College Bound Scholarship Program for middle-school students Wednesday at Rogers High School, 1622 E. Wellesley Ave., from 6 to 7 p.m.

Parents and guardians of middle school students are invited to learn about the scholarship. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 1.

Dinner will be provided.

Vibraphone recital

Salk Middle School instrumental music teacher Brian Bogue will perform in the Eastern Washington University Music Building Recital Hall in Cheney Friday at noon.

Bogue will play the vibraphone and will be accompanied by Clark Bondy on saxophone, Barry Aiken on keyboards, Ted Swenson on bass and Daniel Cox on drums.

The recital will feature music from Bogue’s CD, “Get Real,” and will include a discussion about his music.

The group also will perform Friday at Faith Bible Church, 600 W. Cora Ave., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at Laguna Café, 4307 S. Regal St.

Feed me, Seymour

The Lewis and Clark High School musical theatre department will present “Little Shop of Horrors” today and Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 421 W. Fourth Ave.

The play is about a florist’s assistant who cultivates a plant that feeds on human flesh, all set to music, of course.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. The Saturday matinee will be $5.

Mead graduate elected

Erik Stranahan Lowe has been elected president of the Associated Students of Western Washington University.

Lowe is a 2005 graduate of Mead High School and is majoring in history and political science. He’s the son of Denise Stranahan Beail and Aaron Lowe.

Lewis and Clark yard sale

Organizers of the 2008 Lewis and Clark Senior All-Nighter will throw a yard sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 904 W. Comstock Court.

The funds will benefit the drug- and alcohol-free party for graduating seniors the night of the graduation ceremony.
