Teens captured during burglary

From staff reports

Two 18-year-old alleged burglars were captured Wednesday morning by Spokane Valley Police who responded to a burglary-in-progress call in the 2000 block of South Eastern Lane.

Hayden T. Howard and Dane A. Brandt were arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on felony charges of residential burglary and first-degree theft, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

The incident began about 10:15 a.m. when a resident in the home called 911 and said he heard a car pull up to the garage and a window break. He ran from the home into nearby woods, but stayed on the line with sheriff’s dispatchers.

The two suspects entered the home and removed a large-screen television, an X-Box game system and several game cartridges. They apparently saw the door left open by the resident and realized they had been seen.

The suspects fled in a Ford Tempo, but were spotted and stopped by K-9 Officer Darell Stidham at 16th and Bettman. Officers Aaron Childress and Glenn Hinckley assisted in the arrest while Sgt. John Nowels contacted the victim at the home.
