WSU volleyball gets first Pac-10 win

The Washington State volleyball team won its first Pac-10 match of the season, outlasting Oregon State in five sets in Corvallis, Ore.

The 25-17, 15-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12 victory was also the first conference win for first-year coach Andrew Palileo.

Jackie Albright had 13 kills and 16 digs, Brittany Johnson had 12 kills, a season-high 15 digs and three blocks, and Brittany Tillman had 10 kills and eight blocks to lead the Cougars (8-18, 1-14 Pac-10). The loss was the sixth in a row for the Beavers (14-13, 3-11).

•Fifth-ranked Washington beat No. 8 Oregon 25-22, 22-25, 31-29, 25-20) in Eugene, Ore. The Huskies’ win ended a 15-match home winning streak for the Ducks (21-6, 9-5 Pac-10).

Jenna Hagglund recorded 52 assists and 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the season as second-place Washington (21-4, 12-3) widened its conference lead over third-place California to two games.

Men’s soccer

Gonzaga went into Sunday’s play with a chance for a share of the West Coast Conference title, but lost 4-0 to Saint Mary’s in Moraga, Calif.

With a win, the Bulldogs (9-8-2, 6-5-1 WCC) would have tied for the regular-season crown with San Francisco, which lost 5-4 at Loyola Marymount. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Gonzaga.

Women’s soccer

Washington’s season ended with a 3-1 loss to ninth-ranked Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

Washington finished 15-6-1, with five of its six losses coming to top-10 teams.

Cross country

The University of Washington was one of 14 schools to have both men’s and women’s cross country teams qualify for the NCAA championships.

The top-ranked Huskies women’s team earned a berth by winning the West Regional Championships on Saturday, while the men’s team was awarded an at-large berth Sunday.
