Montana nips Cal Poly

Senior quarterback Cole Bergquist threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as No. 5 Montana rallied from a 21-14 halftime deficit to beat No. 11 Cal Poly 30-28 in a non-conference football game Saturday night in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Bergquist completed 13 of 22 passes for 163 yards and two scores for the Grizzlies (1-0). He was sacked six times.

Junior placekicker Andrew Gardner missed a 27-yarder with 38 seconds remaining that would have given the Mustangs (1-1) the lead.

Kansas State 69, Montana State 10: At Manhattan, Kan., Josh Freeman ran for two scores and threw for two more and the Wildcats (2-0) returned two blocked punts for touchdowns for the first time in school history in a rout of the Bobcats (1-1).

Montana State had three turnovers inthe first quarter.

Colorado State 23, Sacramento State 20: At Fort Collins, Colo., Mike Pagnotta recovered a late fumble and freshman kicker Ben DeLine hit a 20-yard field goal with no time remaining, lifting Rams (1-1) to a win over the Hornets (1-1).

DeLine also connected on a 36-yard field goal to tie the game with 1:29 remaining.

Purdue 42, Northern Colorado 10: At West Lafayette, Ind., Curtis Painter passed for 286 yards and two touchdowns and the Boilermakers (1-0) defeated the Bears (0-1).

Desmond Tardy caught three passes for 112 yards and Kory Sheets ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns for Purdue.

Northern Arizona 68, New Mexico Highlands 10: At Flagstaff, Ariz., Alex Henderson rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and Conrad Meadows added 134 yards receiving as the Lumberjacks (1-1) beat the Cowboys (0-1).
