The man stabbed to death early Saturday had been challenged “to come and meet” for a fight hours before he was a killed, according to court documents filed Thursday.

But William O. Floyd, 22, and his friend Timothy J. Lubben, 20, apparently never showed up. The woman they’d argued with on the phone called Lubben Saturday morning to ask why.

That’s when Lubben told the woman Floyd had been killed.

Those details were included in search warrants filed by Spokane police detectives seeking call records for two cell phone numbers – one belonging to Lubben and one to the woman, identified in court papers as Erica Jennings.

Police Thursday also released a sketch of a man considered a “person of interest” in Floyd’s death.

Lubben told detectives he and Floyd were walking south on Lincoln toward Indiana when they approached the man and a dispute ensued about 2 a.m. The man stabbed Floyd in the chest before running east, Lubben told police.No one has been arrested in the incident, but Lubben was booked into Spokane County Jail Tuesday on unrelated charges. He declined an interview.

Floyd’s death is the city seventh homicide this year and the fourth fatal stabbing.

Floyd was born in Walla Walla and lived at his parents’ home in northwest Spokane.

A memorial near the intersection where he died includes messages from family and friends and calls him a “son, brother and uncle.”

His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home. A visitation is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today.
