H-Bowl executive says Idaho most likely

Idaho Statesman

Idaho is likely to play Bowling Green of the Mid-American Conference in the Dec. 30 Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl at Bronco Stadium, the bowl’s executive director told the Idaho Statesman on Monday night.

“I believe it will be Idaho. I think there’s a good chance it will be Bowling Green, but there are still some scenarios to play out,” Kevin McDonald said. “Bowling Green is a strong possibility. It looks like that’s the team that makes the most sense.”

The bowl could wait as late as Dec. 12 to finalize its teams. Army, which needs a victory to get bowl eligible, plays Navy on that date.

“I don’t think we’re quite there,” WAC commissioner Karl Benson said when asked if Idaho could start planning a trip to Boise. “Ideally, we want to be able to make an announcement that has both teams.”

Bowling Green (7-5) would be a replacement for a team from the Mountain West Conference. The H-Bowl has the fifth pick from the league, which has five bowl-eligible teams. But with TCU headed to a BCS bowl, the league will not be able to provide a team to the H-Bowl.
