NC food drive nets bounty

North Central High School students recently did their part to help those in need.

Twenty-five students spent 13 hours beginning at 5 a.m. last Thursday camped out in front of Safeway on Northwest Boulevard for the school’s second annual food drive.

The students collected approximately 2,000 pounds of food and $500. The food will be donated to the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant and Anna Ogden Hall; the students will use the money to purchase items needed for the charities.

Harper Havko, NC’s ASB president, said the community gave a lot of positive feedback and shared stories. He said he and his classmates not only spent the day collecting donations, but running up and down Northwest Boulevard carrying signs, encouraging people to help. “We were just trying our best to stay warm,” Havko said.

NWC students to sing

The middle and high school students at Northwest Christian will perform “Gloria” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The event will be at the chapel on the school’s campus, 5104 E. Bernhill Road in Colbert.

The students will sing holiday favorites, including “Ode to Joy,” “March of the Kings” and “Silent Night.” The concert will feature Northwest Christian’s band, the mixed choir and select girls choir.

The evening will also include sing-along carols.

Fundraiser for Africa

Northwest Christian’s high school students are raising money to send a needy village in Africa the gift of 10 chickens, a pig, a goat and a sheep.

The students are collecting money through the middle of December to make the gifts of the animals possible. The animals will be purchased and delivered through the ministry of World Vision.
