Mustangs turn away Eagles

Abby Bloetscher came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points and grab a game-high 11 rebounds to spark the Cal Poly Mustangs (5-3) to a 66-59 victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles (6-4) in non-conference women’s basketball action Wednesday night in Cheney.

Kyla Evans topped Eastern with 16 points. Nicole Scott added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Eagles, while Julie Piper chipped in 10 points and six boards.

A cold-shooting first half doomed the Eagles. Eastern shot just 21.4 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes – hitting just 6 of 28 shots – and trailed 28-19.

Kristina Santiago tallied 12 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs, who shot 46.4 percent (13 of 28) in the first half.

Football

The Spokane Shock announced that offensive lineman Devin Clark has been added to the roster.

Clark, 6-foot-4, 317 pounds, signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent in 2008. The Redskins released Clark after the third preseason game this season.

Clark played at the University of New Mexico. He was named to the Mountain West Conference first team as a senior.

Baseball

Seattle University announced that left-handed pitcher Cory Mack of Central Valley High School has signed a letter of intent to play for the school.

“Cory brings a bulldog mentality to our pitching staff,” head coach Donny Harrel said. “ Cory has a chance to compete right away at this level due to his makeup and self-confidence.”
