Difficult baseline baskets willed through the hoop by University of Washington-bound Jeneva Anderson and sophomore Riley Holsinger preserved Lewis and Clark’s long girls basketball winning streak.

Holsinger’s basket with less than 5 seconds remaining lifted the Tigers (17-0) to a 46-44 victory Tuesday night over visiting Central Valley (12-5) in the Greater Spokane League. The victory extended LC’s winning streak to 50 straight games, tied for sixth all time in Washington for all classifications.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better shot on their game winner,” CV coach Freddie Rehkow said. “The right person took it and we were in her face. It was just a clutch shot.”

Three Tigers 3-pointers sparked a 16-1 run and 35-23 lead with 1:53 left in the third.

But if the LC 3-pointers gave, CV 3-pointers took away. Three in succession in the final period cut the margin to 37-36 with 4:34 left to play.

Anderson’s difficult shot from the baseline gave LC a 44-42 lead with 1:02 left. Ashley Hinseth’s inside move for CV tied the game at 44 with 30 seconds left. But Holsinger coolly came through.

Mt. Spokane 43, Rogers 41: The visiting Wildcats (4-12) survived an upset bid by the Pirates (0-16). Averi Hallman’s free throws with 8.6 seconds left provided a four-point lead. Hallman finished with 17 points. Chung Huynh and Jessica Carpenter had 10 rebounds apiece for the Pirates.

Mead 63, Gonzaga Prep 47: The host Panthers (15-2) took command in the second quarter to assure at least a tie for second place in the GSL. Taylor Ingebritsen scored eight of her 10 points in the period to spark a 17-6 run.

Mead’s Jazmine Redmon had a game-high 21 points with 12 rebounds, and Tifa Puletasi added 14 points and eight boards.

Tia Presley scored 27 and Lindsay Stockton 14 for the Bullpups (9-9).

University 47, Ferris 37: The Titans (10-8) moved into fourth place among 4A schools. Zoe Scott scored 14 points and Chenise Pakootas had 10 rebounds for U-Hi. Ashley Lockmer had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Saxons (4-13).

Shadle Park 53, North Central 28: The Highlanders (12-5) dominated the first half against the Indians (2-15) during Groovy Shoes night at the Arena. Lindsay Niemeier led the way with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
