Priest River beats Orofino, earns district top seed

Jake Weimer had 19 points and nine rebounds and the Priest River Spartans completed their perfect Intermountain League season with a 59-45 boys basketball victory over the Orofino Maniacs on Saturday afternoon at Orofino.

Priest River (16-1, 10-0) will be the top seed and have a first-round bye when district play begins Tuesday at North Idaho College.

Orofino (5-10, 3-6) is the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Bonners Ferry (5-14, 3-7) on Tuesday.

Max Salesky added 12 points and Eric Holbrook 10 for Priest River.

Dylan Midstokke had 20 points and Nathan Struhs 15 for Orofino.

St. Maries 61, Bonners Ferry 54: Zach Lehman scored 26 points and Aaron Corsi had 14 to lead the Lumberjacks (14-3, 7-3) past the Badgers.

St. Maries will be the No. 2 seed and earned a first-round bye to the district tournament. On Wednesday, they will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 3 Kellogg (9-10, 5-5) and No. 6 Timberlake (4-14, 1-8).

Idaho 1A Div. 2 District I-II

Kootenai 53, Clark Fork 46: Jake Zarpentine had 17 points – nine in the first half – and nine rebounds to lead the Warriors past the Wampus Cats (5-15) at Lewiston High School.

Stillman Berkley paced Clark Fork with 26 points. The Wampus Cats were eliminated.

Summit Academy 53, Kootenai 27: The Patriots ended the Warriors’ season with the victory at Lewiston High School.

Kolten Wilms and Dakota Amy scored seven points apiece for Kootenai (5-14). Amy had nine rebounds.

Idaho 4A District I

Sandpoint 52, Lakeland 45: Stefan Buratto made all 10 of his free throws on the way to 16 points and the Bulldogs (4-14) beat the Hawks (7-14), ending Lakeland’s season.

Sandpoint will continue its quest for a state tournament berth when it plays at Moscow on Tuesday. A Moscow victory will send the Bears (9-10) to state and the Bulldogs home. A Sandpoint victory will force a rematch for the state berth.

Bryce Olin added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Kyle English had 17 points and Cody Moreland had 10 rebounds for the Hawks.

Great Northern League

Medical Lake 46, Pullman 39: At Medical Lake, Ray Erwin scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half and the Cardinals (8-11, 5-8) handed the Greyhounds (13-6, 10-3) their second loss in as many nights.

Jaime Fertakis scored 11 points to lead Pullman, which dropped a 55-49 decision to West Valley on Friday.

Washington District 6 1A

Lake Roosevelt 61, Cascade (Leavenworth) 44: At Omak, Ty Egbert scored 20 points and the Raiders earned the Caribou Trail League’s No. 3 seed to regionals with a victory over the Kodiaks.

Three other Raiders scored 10 points apiece.
