RiverHawks rout BlueJackets

The Spokane RiverHawks rode the bat of Phil Johnson and the arm of Kyle Anderson to an 11-2 victory over the Kitsap BlueJackets (9-15) in West Coast League action Saturday at Avista Stadium.

Johnson was 5 for 5 at the plate, with a home run and four singles. He drove in four runs and scored three times.

Anderson pitched eight innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Cody Reeves went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for Spokane (12-14).

Rodeo

Two defending champs finished first and second after the second day of the Cheney Rodeo. Barbara West of Oak Harbor, Wash., was best in barrel racing with a time of 17.64 seconds. BJ Tarufcio of Walla Walla was second in steer wrestling with a 6.7 – trailing Colin Wolfe of Wenatchee with 5.9.

The rodeo wraps up today beginning at 2 p.m.

Soccer

Gogondeep Dosanijh scored in the 90th minute to lift the Vancouver Whitecaps (6-6-3) to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Spokane Spiders (3-13) in Premier Development League soccer play.

Golf

Tyler Matthews of Redmond, Wash., defeated Josh Anderson of Murrieta, Calif., 5 and 4 to win the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash.

Matthews also earned medalist honors in the 36-hole stroke play qualifying portion of the tourney.
