Frame, Taylor post victories at Publinx

Washington State University incoming freshman Hank Frame of Spokane and Washington Huskies senior Nick Taylor advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla., on Wednesday.

Frame, a University High School graduate seeded 24th, defeated 56th seed Robert Riesen 4 and 3. He’ll face No. 9 seed Wesley Bryan today.

“I played more consistently today than yesterday when I shot 77,” said Frame.

Taylor, the top seed, knocked off Craig Cyr 6 and 4. He’ll play Brett Munson today.

•The team from Odom Northwest Beverages with amateurs Jim Mason, Curtis Nelson, Adam Hilbert and Dave Newton, along with professional Brad Martin won the net team competition with a 116 in the Rosauers Open Invitational Sponsor Pro-Am at Indian Canyon Golf Course. The winners earned $250 apiece.

Low professional honors went to Ryan Gilmour of Corvallis (Ore.) Country Club who shot a 5-under-par 66.

The Pro-Am concludes today, with the Rosauers Open slated to start Friday morning.

Football

The Spokane Shock are ranked No. 1 for the 18th straight week in the arenafootball2 coaches poll.

The Shock collected 382 of a possible 384 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Tulsa (334). Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (321), last week’s No. 2 team, dropped to third, followed by Boise (319).
