Man trapped in car after Hayden Lake crash

A man was trapped and had to be rescued Wednesday after his car went off the roadway and struck a tree near Hayden Lake, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The man, whose identity was not released, apparently drove his car off East Hayden Lake Road about 5 p.m., one mile west of North Sportsman Park Road on the north side of the lake.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the man trapped inside the car. He had to be airlifted by MedStar to an area hospital for his injuries, the extent of which are unknown.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, officials said. An investigation is ongoing.
