Novena of Grace services planned

St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave., will present its 82nd annual Novena of Grace Saturday through March 15.

This nine-day period of concentrated prayer dates back to 1615, in Goa, India, when St. Francis Xavier cured a boy disabled from birth.

Services of the Novena will be held daily at 12:15, 3:30 and 5:15 p.m. The first Sunday service will be held at 12:30 p.m. to allow for the usual Sunday services.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered 45 minutes before each service.

This year’s presenters include the Revs. Dick Case and Frank Case.

More Lenten activities

Call to Action Spokane will continue its Sunday Lenten Series of speakers Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Jesuit House Chapel on the Gonzaga University Campus.

This week’s speaker will be Patrick McCormick who will speak on the topic, “Jesus as a Person of Justice.”

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W. Rowan Ave., will present a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

The dinner will include pasta, bread, dessert and a beverage for $5.

The church is also continuing its free soup dinners every Wednesday during Lent at 6 p.m.

A Lenten devotional service will follow at 7 p.m.

Christ the King Anglican Church, 3527 W. 29th Ave., will present a study of the Lenten Psalms each Wednesday in Lent at 6:30 p.m.

Rev. Jerry Cimijotti will lead the group, and a soup dinner will be offered.

Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, will continue its “Movies that Make Us Think Again,” series Sunday at 5 p.m.

This week’s movie will be “Babette’s Feast.”

Mobile food distribution

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will present the “Homegrown Help Mobile Food Distribution” today from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot behind Grace Baptist Church, 1523 W. Mallon Ave.

No special qualifications will be needed to receive food.

Fundraiser and auction

Faith Baptist Academy, 2804 E. Euclid Ave., will hold a dinner and auction, “There’s No Place Like Home,” Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The evening will include a silent auction from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and a live auction and dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Dinner will include fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, corn and dessert. There will be a kids’ menu available including chicken nuggets or hot dogs, chips and a cookie.

Must be 12 or older to attend.

Items up for auction include homemade quilts, crafts, gift certificates and more.

This cost is $8 in advance, $10 at the door and $6 per student or child.

The proceeds will benefit tuition costs at the school.

Interfaith dialogue

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present “Speak Peace” an Interfaith Dialogue, One Peace Many Paths, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The event will include a panel of representatives of various faiths – Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhism.
