Veterans Day events, closures

Here are some of the Veterans Day events scheduled for Wednesday:

10 a.m. Program sponsored by local veterans organizations, with wreath-laying by Gold Star Mothers, speech by former Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and awarding of two Purple Hearts. Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

11:30 a.m. Vietnam veterans tribute with bagpipes and wreath-laying. Vietnam Memorial, Riverfront Park, downtown Spokane.

3 p.m. Opening of The Pearl, transitional housing for homeless vets, 173 S. Adams St., Spokane.

Holiday closures

The following services are affected by the Veterans Day holiday Wednesday:

•All county, state and federal offices are closed in both Spokane and Kootenai counties.

•Spokane Valley, Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls city offices are closed.

•City of Spokane offices are open, but city parking meters don’t have to be plugged.

•All garbage pickup and curbside recycling will proceed on a normal schedule.

•Post offices will be closed.

•Spokane Transit buses will operate on regular their schedules.

•Most banks will be closed; check with individual branches.

•Most state liquor stores will be open.
