Weighing in

A weekly look at reader comments and reactions to the news

From Www.Spokesman.Com

Sarah Palin has been in the media a lot recently, thanks to the recent publication of her book, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” her appearance on “Oprah” and Newsweek’s use of a photograph of Palin in running shorts on its Nov. 23 magazine cover.

A mention of Palin at spokesman.com never fails to generate comments. Here is a sampling of recent comments to various news stories and columns.

In response to syndicated columnist Jonah Goldberg’s defense of the former vice presidential candidate:

r Lynch: It is amazing the hate generated by Governor Palin among the Liberal nut cases.

Regarding syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker’s contention that Palin should have been happy with the Newsweek cover instead of complaining it was sexist:

Pat OLeary: I think she is just stirring up a controversy when there really should be none. … Who on God’s earth could ever vote for this maroon?

Regarding a news story about an Idaho group seeking an end to aerial shooting of predators:

Sugar Shane: Oh, man, wait till Palin gets word of this! She will be outraged!

Regarding Palin’s recent refusal to say whether she’s considering a presidential bid in 2012:

Spokanada: I hope she runs. It’s the only way Obama will win a second term.

But the Palin story that generated the most comments at spokesman.com was the one reporting that she spent Thanksgiving with relatives in Richland and ran in that city’s Turkey Trot fun run. Palin’s been in this neck of the woods plenty of times before. After all, she’s a Sandpoint native who attended North Idaho Junior College and the University of Idaho before becoming governor of Alaska (she resigned from that position in July).

Ohyeah: She is quite possibly the most insignificant political figure in America’s history. Please just leave her out of the news.

Ryan B: I will be there for her to sign her fascinating and wonderful piece of literature.

Uptight_Spokane: The biggest turkey at the table.

Pat OLeary: She does have (a) degree in journalism and is an excellent writer. She will be our next president.

Uptight_Spokanite: Hate to break it to Pat, but she had a ghostwriter and she’d make a horrible president.

Spokanada: She quit on the race like she quit on her state.

r Lynch: For all the weenies: GO SARAH… You make us proud. Thanks for spending time in Washington state. As NIJC alumni, we say the boo birds need to get a life.
