Grading the cougars: D

Passing offense: D

There was little time to throw at the start and too few completions throughout.

Rushing offense: C+

Considering the youth up front, rushing for more than 100 yards was pretty good.

Passing defense: D+

Pressure was rare and way too many open receivers.

Rushing defense: F

The numbers tell the story: 318 yards, 5.4 yard per carry, six touchdowns.

Special teams: C

A muffed punt set up the TD, but another missed PAT and poor decisions on kickoffs.

Coaching: D

Only the injuries, and the resultant restraints, saved this from being lower.

As a lifelong Cougar fan, I have been there for the best and the worst. Unfortunately, the best is far behind in the rear view mirror. The worst… our current program… just keeps getting worse. I can put up with a lot from our small school… but getting embarassed weekend after weekend? That’s hard to take.

Where’s the swagger? The not afraid to put the hurt on players defenses? Where are those players who say “sure, we might get beat, but you’re going to get a smack in the mouth?”

Is Wulff in over his head?

There have been a lot of comments by players… challenging the new training program that focuses on total weight lifted… not reps or conditioning that was the focus under previous coaches. Can’t help but wonder if their predictions about injuries aren’t telling.

Finally… This is the last year to pay off Doba’s payoff contract… which if memory serves me correct…was more in one year, than for all three remaining years of Wulff’s contract.

With a 30-40 million dollar stadium expansion on the way… how long can WSU suffer through such bad football???
