LC stays in title hunt

In a Greater Spokane League match focused mostly along the center line with few scoring opportunities, it was the Lewis and Clark girls soccer team (8-3, 5-1) that came up with the breakthrough goal for a 2-1 win over visiting University (8-3, 5-2) on Friday at Hart Field.

LC is in a second-place tie with Mt. Spokane behind leader Mead while U-Hi slipped to fourth.

University tied it in the 42nd minute, but the Tigers came back 6 minutes later, scoring on a goal by Sarah Barrentine with an assist from Madisen Stewart.

In other GSL matches, East Valley (3-5, 3-4) bested North Central (1-8, 0-7) 3-2 as Samantha Hisiker scored the match’s opening two goals and the Knights held on at North Central. … Mt. Spokane (9-1, 5-1) held a 22-4 edge in shots but struggled to find the net until two second-half goals netted the host Wildcats a 2-1 victory over Shadle Park (5-5, 3-3). … Kaleigh Miller scored two first-half goals and added a third after the break to lead visiting Central Valley (4-6, 3-3) over Ferris (4-7, 2-4) 6-3. The Bears took advantage of sloppy play by Ferris to lead 3-0 at intermission and did not let the Saxons back into the game. … Four Mead players scored in a 5-1 win at Rogers (0-6, 0-6). Lindsey Pangborn scored the first two for the Panthers (8-1, 6-1).

Volleyball

Intermountain League: Markael Acord had nine kills and four blocks as Bonners Ferry (2-5) held off host Orofino 25-23, 27-25, 25-23.
