One killed in Highway 395 crash

A Deer Park woman has died of injuries in a two-vehicle collision that closed resulted in U.S. Highway 395 being closed for several hours 10 miles north of Spokane on Tuesday. Laura E. Koppe, 20, was driving a Pontiac south when she lost control of her car in the slush-covered road about 1:47 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. Koppe’s car crossed the centerline and was struck by a northbound Toyota driven by Richard G. Smith, 80, of Addy, Wash. Smith and his passengers, Lorene Smith, 75, and Emma Hall, 5, were taken by ambulance to Providence Holy Family Hospital. The Smiths were in stable condition. Hall’s condition was not available Tuesday evening. Koppe was transported by medical helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center where she died.
