Prep roundup: Bears ride big inning to victory

Sparked by Dane Berg’s double, 15 Central Valley hitters came to the plate in the fourth inning, and the Bears (10-1) scored 10 runs to blow past Greater Spokane League foe Shadle Park (3-8) 15-3 in five innings Tuesday at Central Valley.

Berg had three hits, as did Coedy Cooley and Spencer Nichols, who combined for five runs and three RBIs for the Bears.

In other GSL games, Carson Blumenthal allowed one run on two hits while striking out seven over five innings and Mt. Spokane (10-1) bested North Central (2-7) 9-3 at Mt. Spokane. … A balk forced home Ben Pelle with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and gave Ferris (6-5) a 10-9 victory over visiting Mead (6-3). The Panthers’ Jake Schrader went 3 for 3 with a double as he continues to lead the GSL in hitting for the season. … Josh Martin was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored as Lewis and Clark (7-4) put Rogers (1-8) away 12-1 in six innings at Rogers. … Ryan Senger allowed one run and one hit over six innings with five strikeouts to help deliver Gonzaga Prep’s (1-8) first win of the season, an 8-3 victory over East Valley (3-6) at EV.

•Taylor Marshall led Clarkston’s 20-hit attack, going 3 for 7 with a home run, six runs and six RBIs as the Bantams (8-2, 4-2) swept their Great Northern League doubleheader against Medical Lake (4-3, 1-3), 20-5, 13-0 at ML. Brady Arnone pitched a one-hit shutout in the second game for the Bantams.

•Nathan Collier allowed one run on two hits and struck out seven and Kaleb Dehaas added three hits and an RBI as Coeur d’Alene (10-5, 2-1) upended Post Falls (2-7, 0-5) 9-1 in IEL 5A action in PF.

•Matt Holak had two hits and three RBIs and Alex Kellogg added a three-run inside-the-park home run as host Bonners Ferry (2-6, 1-2) buried Intermountain League foe Kellogg (3-7, 1-4) 15-0 in five innings. Matt Surrena earned the win, allowing one hit while striking out five.

Golf

Chessey Thomas of Lewis and Clark and Mt. Spokane’s Savana Bezdicek each shot 2-over-par 74s for medalist honors, but it was LC that finished first at the GSL’s second league tournament, finishing with a score of 431 at the Fairways Golf Course.

The Tigers also took first in the boys tourney, tallying 365 and led by Christian Alfaro, who tied with Ferris’ Garrett Howard atop the leaderboard with a 1-under 71. The Tigers were bolstered by Peter Gullickson and Peter Williams, who both shot 73 to finish in a tie for fourth place.
