In brief: Mountain friends to host fundraiser

RATHDRUM – The Friends of Rathdrum Mountain will have a fundraiser at the Westwood Saloon, 8162 Main St. tonight at 5:30 p.m.

The benefit will include live music by John Sylte and Friends and The Lean Pool. A silent auction will also be held.

Tickets are $10 at the door. The event is for ages 21 and older.

Comedy centers on film critics

COEUR D’ALENE – “The Real Inspector Hound” will be performed by Tom Stoppard in North Idaho College’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The one-act comedy portrays two critics watching a poorly written murder mystery who find themselves in the middle of their own real-life murder mystery.

The play is free and open to the public. Children 5 and younger will not be admitted.

Recital to feature music teachers

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College music department will feature the talent of NIC’s music instructors during the Faculty Music Recital today at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 Indiana Ave. in Coeur d’Alene.

Instructors performing in the concert are Andrea Dawson and Max Mendez with vocals, Toni Helms and Debra O’Dell on piano, Paul Grove on guitar, Gerard Mathes on violin, Jill Cathey on oboe and Austin Little on banjo. NIC students and community members performing are Cole Ballenger on clarinet, Jeff Worsfold on piano, Molly Wilbur on mandolin, Jenny Little on bass and Bonnie Campbell on guitar.

The audience can enjoy a number of pieces including “La Catedral” by Agustin Barrios, the Johannes Brahms piece “Rhapsodie, Op. 79 No. 2” and “Sin tu amor: Impossible Dream” from “Man of La Mancha.”

College to host choral concert

COEUR D’ALENE – The “Spring Choral Extravaganza” will be next Sunday at 2 p.m. at the North Idaho College Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.

The concert will feature the North Idaho College Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, along with special guests Bella Voce and the Spokane Choral Artists.

Friday program for at-risk youth

SPIRIT LAKE – The Youth Equipped for Success Juvenile Support Program will continue Friday Night Life Skills at the original location at 5864 W. Main St., from 3 to 5 p.m. The after-school portion of the program was discontinued on March 26.

The Y.E.S. Friday Night program provides snacks and activities to all youth in need in the community. Other components of the program include life enhancement; parental support; functional family skills development; and community accountability.

Youth identified as at-risk are referred by community members, teachers, parents, mental health providers and juvenile support programs.

Center to host Indian cooking

BLANCHARD – The Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Road, will host “The Chefs Tour of India” cooking class on Monday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to make chicken curry pie with cilantro yogurt; sirloin beef balls with vegetable salad; cilantro chutney chicken thighs; dhal with black mustard seed; and Bombay fish with aromatics.

Cost is $25 per person.

Closure dates set for boat launch

PRIEST LAKE – The Kalispell Bay boat launch will be closed Monday through June 30, open during July and August, then closed from Sept. 7 through the remainder of fall for the reconstruction at the boat launch.

The construction will include a new overflow parking lot on the west side of Lakeshore Road, along with repaving the roads and parking areas within the existing site. There will also be an additional ramp and dock added to the area around the boat launch.

Hall of Fame set for Saturday

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College Booster Club and Athletics Department will host the Hall of Fame Induction, Awards Banquet and Auction on Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building Ts’elusm Dining Room.

Inductees include former track coach Mike Bundy, former baseball coach Jack Bloxom and track standout Derek Woodske. The event will include live and silent auctions with items such as a Seattle Mariners baseball travel package, Gonzaga University basketball tickets, a University of Idaho football weekend getaway, a fly fishing trip for two, cooking classes and dinner with local chefs, golf packages to area resort golf courses and gift certificates and baskets from area businesses and the athletics department.
