Redmon selected as MVP

Mead High’s Jazmine Redmon was named the game’s most valuable player as the Washington girls basketball team defeated Oregon 86-73 Saturday at the Les Schwab Northwest Shootout at the University of Portland.

Redmon, who led the Panthers to second place at the State 4A tournament in March, finished with 18 points.

Three other players finished in double figures for Washington, which has won four consecutive games in the series.

Baseball

Nicky Scourey finished both games of the Pullman baseball team’s Great Northern League doubleheader, going 5 for 8, hitting a pair of home runs, driving in six and scoring four times as the Greyhounds (7-5, 6-2) swept Clarkston (8-4, 4-4) 11-0, 7-2 in Clarkston.

Scourey also picked up the win in the opener, striking out 11 while allowing no runs on five hits in seven innings.

In other GNL games, Ryan Wagner had four RBIs and secured the winning run with a double in the bottom of the seventh as Medical Lake (6-4, 2-4) salvaged a split against visiting Colville (6-7, 4-3), winning 5-4 after falling 11-0 in the opener. … Ben DeVoe drove in the go-ahead run and pitched a complete-game four-hitter, allowing one run and striking out five, as Riverside (3-10, 2-6) beat Deer Park (1-8, 0-6) 2-1 in the opener and then 9-4 in the second game in Riverside. … Brandon Funk went 3 for 4 with a home run and seven RBIs to lead West Valley (6-4, 5-3) to a 12-2 win and a split of its doubleheader as Cheney (9-2, 7-1) won the nightcap 12-8 on six runs in the seventh inning. The Eagles handed the Blackhawks their first loss in league play as three pitchers held them to two runs on four hits.

•Three Lewiston (16-1, 7-1) pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and just one walk and the Bengals swept a pair from Post Falls (2-9, 0-7) in an IEL 5A doubleheader, winning 11-0 and 6-3 in Post Falls.

•Caleb Guerber’s two-run double in the third inning of the second game gave Lakeland (7-5, 3-2) the lead for good as the host Hawks beat Moscow (3-9, 1-1) 4-3 after falling 12-8 in the opener of their IEL 4A doubleheader in Rathrdrum.

•John Morris had three hits, including a two-run triple during a five-run seventh inning, as visiting Timberlake (7-5, 5-2) won the opener of its doubleheader against Intermountain League foe Priest River (4-8, 2-2) 11-4. The Tigers kept on swinging in the second game, tallying 19 hits en route to a 21-6 victory in Priest River.

In other IML games, Jaden Surrena allowed three runs on two hits while striking out 11 in seven innings to lead St. Maries (4-10, 4-2) to a 6-3 win in its opening game against visiting Bonners Ferry (3-7, 2-3). The Badgers struck back in the nightcap, collecting a triple and a home run from Alex Kellogg to win 21-4.

Softball

Leah Peterson’s two-run single broke a 2-2 tie in the second game of the Great Northern League doubleheader between West Valley (9-3, 5-1) and Cheney (3-6, 1-5), with the Eagles sowing up the sweep with a 4-2 victory after taking the opener 3-2 at WV.

Rachel Meagley earned the win in the first game, striking out 13 and taking a shutout into the seventh inning, allowing three runs on two hits. Kelli Peckham followed with two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts to complete the sweep.

In other GNL games, Megan Fisher tallied a pair of wins, striking out 11 in 14 innings, and Peyton McMahon finished with six hits, four runs and two RBIs as Riverside (8-4, 3-3) swept Deer Park (8-3, 3-3) 8-4, 7-5 in Riverside. … Jamie Blessing scored a pair on an error to right field in the top of the ninth inning to lift Clarkston (6-3, 4-2) to an 11-9 win over Pullman (5-6, 2-4) in Clarkston. The Bantams won the nightcap 4-2.

•Chelsea Campbell hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make a winner out of Jamie Klopatek, who held Moscow (1-9, 0-2) to no runs on one hit, as host Lakeland (9-4, 4-0) won 1-0. The Hawks followed up the win with a 7-0 victory in the second game, led by Ashley Metcalf’s six-hit shutout in IEL 4A action in Rathrdrum.

•Timberlake (6-6, 4-0) pounded out 38 runs on 33 hits, sweeping Priest River (1-9, 0-4) 17-5, 21-10 in an Intermountain League doubleheader in PR. Nicole Cameron led the way, earning wins in both contests from the circle and adding six hits at the plate, including a double.

Boys soccer

Nick Stevens scored two goals in the final two minutes, wrapping up a 5-2 victory for Pullman (6-5, 6-3) in Great Northern League action against Colville (1-9, 0-9) in Pullman.

Pavel Hudak added a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds.

Track and field

Jarell Daniels won the 100-meter dash and the North Central boys took first at the Big Red Invite with 139 points in Cheney. The Mead girls also finished first with 122.67 points.

•Christina Anderson took first in the 1,600 and 3,200 to lead Northwest Christian (97 points) to a win at the Undeberg Invitational in Medical Lake.

ML won the boys with 86.5 points, while Reardan’s Chace Bell won the 100, 200 and 400 meters.
