Former U.S. attorney for Idaho dies

Sidney Smith, former U.S. attorney for the state of Idaho, has died at the age of 95. Smith was a longtime resident of Coeur d’Alene, and died Friday. He was born in Superior, Wis., graduated from the University of Colorado law school, and served in Europe in World War II. Smith practiced law in Coeur d’Alene, and ran for lieutenant governor in 1965. In 1970 he was appointed by President Nixon to be deputy general counsel for the General Services Administration, serving for one year in Washington D.C. Nixon appointed him U.S. attorney for Idaho, and he served from 1971-1975.
