Johnson’s 22 leads Sasquatch past Umpqua

Chaz Johnson recorded 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers, to lead Community Colleges of Spokane (5-3) to a 77-69 victory over Umpqua (0-3) at the Dale J. Bates Invitational tournament in Eugene, Ore. on Friday

Rodney Delgado tallied 15 points and Matt Barnes added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Sasquatch in the win. CCS plays Northwest Elite at 4 p.m. today in the tournament semifinals.

Lane plays Southwest Oregon at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal.

• DeShawn Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points, going 12 of 21 from the floor, and Snow College (10-4, 1-0) edged top-ranked North Idaho (13-1, 0-1) 76-72 in its Scenic West Athletic Conference opener in Ephraim, Utah.

Michael Hale finished with a team-high 22 points for the Cardinals, who shot 50 percent in the first half, but dipped to just 36.1 percent in the second.

Travis Wilkins recorded a double-double for the Badgers with 17 points and 10 boards.

Women’s basketball

Kourtney Zilbert and Brittany Aranda combined for 32 points and 19 rebounds and Whittier (2-3) beat Whitworth (3-4) 76-61 in nonconference action in Whittier, Calif.

Emily Guthrie led the way for the Pirates with 18 points and scored eight consecutive points in the first half to give them an 11-point lead. But the Poets answered with a 13-0 run to take the lead and they never trailed again.

• Erica Martinez went 6 of 11 from 3-point range, finishing with 26 points, Dani Lockhart added 10 points and 26 rebounds and Snow College (7-2, 1-0) handed North Idaho (10-1, 0-1) its first loss of the season 79-76 in SWAC action in Ephraim, Utah.

The Cardinals were led by a double-double from Tugce Canitez, who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Korina Baker added 16 points.
