Prep roundup: Priest River wins holiday tourney

It was never much of a game in the Newport Holiday Tournament boys basketball championship game on Saturday.

That was largely due to the Priest River Spartans (3-1), who raced to a 46-25 halftime advantage before turning back the Newport Grizzlies (4-4) 86-61.

Senior point guard Eric Holbrook had a huge game, scoring 30 points to go with six assists and six rebounds. Jaden Barrett had 16 points. Jake Wiley led Newport with 19 points and five blocked shots.

Riverside 51, Cusick 45: In the game for third place in the Newport Holiday Tournament, the Rams (3-3) outlasted the Panthers (1-2). Jordan Wood led Riverside with 27 points, 20 of those coming in the second half. Tyler Edwards led Cusick with 19 points.

Intermountain

Kellogg 56, Timberlake 50: A pair of Ryans came up big for the Wildcats (6-2 overall, 2-0 league) as Ryan McDonald had 11 points and Ryan Beggerly had 10 in the victory over the visiting Tigers (0-7, 0-2). Brian Cronnelly had 25 for Timberlake.

Bi-County 2B

Colfax 69, Davenport 37: The visiting Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) got out fast in the first half, bolting to a 41-15 lead by halftime over the Gorillas (2-2, 1-2). Justin Berarducci led Colfax with 18 points and teammates Alex Teade, JJ Robinson and Brandon Gfeller had 12, 10 and 10 respectively.

Northwest Christian 76, Kettle Falls 42: The Crusaders (4-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 16-0 lead in an easy win on the road over the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-3). Kwinn Hanson led NWC with 24 points.

Reardan 42, Liberty 39: An 18-11 outburst in the fourth quarter lifted the Indians (4-2, 4-0) over the visiting Lancers (1-4, 1-2). Roy Walser led Reardan with 13 points. Eric Hammond had 10 for Liberty.

St. George’s 59, Springdale 56: The Dragons (3-2, 2-0) needed nearly all of their 22-9 start in the first quarter to hold off the visiting Chargers (3-3, 0-2). Karl Muelheims had 15 points for St. George’s while Alvin Welch scored 13 to lead Springdale.

Panorama League

Selkirk 65, Northport 53: The Mustangs (4-2, 1-2) forced 20 turnovers in the second half but it wasn’t enough to overcome the visiting Rangers (3-5, 2-2). Hunter Enyeart and Avery Miller scored 16 apiece for Selkirk and Philip Johnson led Northport with 19 points.

Curlew 49, Columbia 41: The Cougars (4-2, 1-1) got 18 points from Tanner Somday in a win over the Lions (1-6, 1-2) at Columbia. Dominick Marquez led Columbia with 13.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 58, Pomeroy 27: The Vikings’ (4-3, 2-2) Steven Griffin led four players in double figures with 12 points in a win over the visiting Pirates (0-6, 0-4). Mitch Ruchert led Pomeroy with 10.

Rosalia 69, St. John-Endicott 41: Flash Hodges had 12 points to lead the visiting Spartans (6-1, 4-0) over the Eagles (2-4, 1-3). Cole McCanna led the Eagles with 12.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 73, Colton 67: Joseph Tampien had 21 points to lead the Nighthawks (2-5, 2-2) over the Bulldogs (4-3, 4-0) at Colton. Josh Straughan led Colton with 26 points.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 61, Mt. Tahoma 52: The Vikings (4-2) opened a 30-23 lead at the Tacoma school en route to the win. Deon Watson led the Vikings with 19 points.

West Valley 70, Sandpoint 44: Brady Bagby had 23 points to lead the Eagles (5-0) over the Bulldogs (4-3) at Sandpoint. Cole Fuhrman led Sandpoint with 11 points.

East Valley 64, Colville 45: Joey Strehlou had a game-high 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Knights (3-1) past the visiting Indians (2-3).

Medical Lake 57, Chewelah 38: Kendyl Dunn had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cardinals (5-1) past the visiting Cougars (2-4). Ben Johnstone led Chewelah with 10 points.

Okanogan 53, Cheney 40: The Bulldogs pulled away from the visiting Blackhawks (5-1). Jon Miller led Cheney with 11 points.

Lake Roosevelt 82, Wellpinit 55: The Raiders (3-1) pulled away from the Redskins (5-2) in the championship game of the Lake Roosevelt Tournament. Ty Egbert led the Raiders with 21 points and Drake Wynne scored 22 to pace Wellpinit.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 56, Valley Christian 51: The visiting Panthers (6-1) held off the Panthers (3-1). Nick Cox led VC with 12 points.

Wilbur-Creston 46, Republic 34: The Wildcats (4-1) caused the Tigers (2-6) to turn the ball over 24 times at Republic.

Okanogan 50, Cheney 37: The Bulldogs used a 25-7 start in the first quarter to thwart the visiting Blackhawks (4-2). Laiklyn Brophy led Cheney with 13 points.
