Basketball roundup: Rosenthal, Vikings handle Riverhawks

Carli Rosenthal scored a game-high 21 points and Coeur d’Alene (7-3) advanced to the championship of the North Idaho College Holiday Tournament with a 51-46 victory over Chiawana (4-2) Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene.

The Vikings led by 11 heading into the fourth quarter, but hit just 6 of 12 free throws in the final quarter, allowing the Riverhawks to pull within five. Kyeli Parker added 13 points and Erin Legel 11 for CdA.

Federal Way 68, Lewiston 57: Talia Walton had 26 points, Darah Huertas-Vining added 20 and the Eagles (7-0) handed the Bengals (8-1) their first loss of the season.

FW plays Coeur d’Alene in the championship game at 7 p.m. today.

Lake City 65, Lapwai 42: Gina Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points, hitting four 3-pointers and the Timberwolves (10-2) opened a 19-point halftime lead, cruising to a win against the Wildcats (7-2).

GSL

University 57, Mt. Spokane 35: Hallie Gennett hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points as the visiting Titans (5-3, 4-2) opened up a 22-point lead with a 16-4 run in the third quarter against the Wildcats (3-4, 2-4). Brooke Reilly led the Wildcats with 10 points.

Nonleague

Central Valley 65, Kentwood 47: Brooke Gallaway tallied a game-high 26 points, hitting three 3-pointers as the Bears (3-5) cruised to a win against the visiting Conquerors. Katie Estey added 13 points for the Bears.

Freeman tournament

Freeman 31, West Valley 30: On a tough shooting night for both teams, the Scotties (9-1) were led by 11 points and 12 rebounds from MacKenzie Taylor, beating the Eagles (6-2) in the championship game.

Hannah Love had 13 points to lead the Eagles, who had a chance to take the lead in the closing seconds, but turned the ball over to give Freeman the win. Lakeland 50, St. Maries 38: Neena Buchmann shot 3 of 5 from the 3-point line and finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, Jenna Davis added 11 points and the Hawks (8-6) jumped out to a 28-11 lead at halftime to beat the Lumberjacks (2-7) in the tourney’s consolation game.

SunDome Shootout

Colville 56, White Swan 53: Ashley Knight and Jorden Brons combined for 27 points and the Indians pushed their unbeaten record to 7-0 with their win over the Cougars (5-2) in Yakima. Amber Jones scored a game-high 19 points for WS.

Riverside 36, Burbank 35 (OT): Courtney Davis scored 18 points, accounting for half of the Rams’ (3-5) scoring as they edged the Coyotes (3-6). The Rams overcame a five-point halftime deficit to draw even at the end of regulation before edging the Coyotes in overtime.

La Salle 49, Deer Park 16: The Lightning held the Stags (3-4) to just 10 points in the first half and outscored them 32-6 after the break to pull away for the easy victory, despite no player finishing with double-figure points.

Reardan tournament

Reardan 71, Wellpinit 18: Kelsey Moos had 17 points and six steals, Lauren Schulz added 11 points and the Indians (7-1) held the Redskins (4-4) scoreless in the second half, outscoring them 29-0 after the break.

After the Redskins trailed by just seven through one quarter, Reardan scored 52 of the next 58 points to close out the game.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 70, Chewelah 39: Madeline Isaak led all scorers with 22 points and added six steals and the Warriors (7-1) outscored the Cougars (3-6) 43-22 after halftime to pull away for the win. The Warriors advance to play Reardan in the championship game today, while Chewelah plays Wellpinit in the consolation game.

Whitman Classic

Columbia 69, Echo (Ore.) 29: Lindsay Loe tallied a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds and the Lions (9-0) cruised to a win against the Cougars in Walla Walla. Kirsta Colvin chipped in with 23 points for the Lions.

Timberlake tourney

East Valley 62, Bonners Ferry 36: Brooklyn Bellomy finished with 13 points, Shelby Bollman added 10 and the Knights (4-4) used a 29-6 run in the fourth quarter to put away the Badgers (2-6) in Spirit Lake.
