Sweet win for Falcons

Brandi Sweet hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Sprague-Harrington Falcons (8-13) to a 43-41 victory over the visiting Cusick Panthers (8-13) in the first round of the District 7 1B girls tournament Wednesday.

Micayla Sauer topped the Falcons with 12 points, while Lacey Hirst had 11 points – hitting 5 of 6 free throws in the final 90 seconds – and six rebounds.

Jamie Adams scored a game-high 16 for Cusick.

Sprague-Harrington will play Columbia at 6 p.m. Saturday as the tournament moves to Deer Park.

Cusick will take on Northport in a loser-out game at 6 p.m.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 80, Curlew 28: Sarah Gloyn hit five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points and Madeline Isaak scored 18 and handed out nine assists to power the Warriors (18-3) to a victory over the visiting Cougars (9-12).

Larissa Miller led Curlew with 10 points. ACH will play Wellpinit at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Deer Park. Curlew will play Odessa in a loser-out game at 7:30.

Columbia 78, Northport 24: Kaitlin Jones came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 10 rebounds and the Lions (20-3) whipped the visiting Mustangs (5-15). Mackenzie Parrow and Julie Ann Larrew each scored 15 to pace the Lions, while Lindsay Loe added 14 points. Shaynne Wilson had a game-high 19 points for Northport.

Wellpinit 71, Odessa 38: Lauren Flett poured in 23 points with eight rebounds, while Niquie Ali chipped in 16 points and seven steals to carry the Redskins (9-12) past the Tigers (3-18). Mariah Davison topped Odessa with 17 points.

District 7 1A

Kettle Falls 56, Chewelah 36: Samantha Charlton tossed in 12 points and Nikka Yankus hauled down 10 rebounds to help the Bulldogs (12-9) earn a loser-out victory over the visiting Cougars (1-20).

Kettle Falls advances to play Lakeside (Nine Mile) at Mead High School at 8 p.m. Friday.

District 9 1B

Rosalia 51, Tri-Cities Prep 24: Katelyn Maley totaled 17 points, five rebounds and three assists to propel the Spartans (13-8) to a victory over the visiting Jaguars (1-12). Next up for Rosalia is a game at St. John-Endicott at 6 p.m. Friday.

LaCrosse-Washtucna 46, Touchet 44 (OT): Gladys Martinez hit two free throws with 1 second left to send the game into overtime and finished with 16 points to lead the Tigercats (8-13) past the host Indians (5-9). L-W advances to play at Colton at 6 p.m. Friday.

Idaho 3A District I-II

Priest River 37, Kellogg 34: Melissa Hopkins tallied 15 points and 14 rebounds and Taylor Stewart hit a key 3-pointer in the final period to help the Spartans (15-6) hold off the Wildcats (14-8) at Lakeland High in Rathdrum. Chelsea Morgan topped Kellogg with 13 points. PR plays Timberlake in a winner-to-state game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lakeland. Kellogg plays a loser-out game against Bonners Ferry at 6 p.m.

Timberlake 53, Bonners Ferry 36: Cassie Thompson tallied 15 points and the Tigers (18-2) outscored the Badgers (9-13) 27-14 in the second half en route to a victory at Lakeland.

Idaho 1A Division II

Mullan 32, Kootenai 29: Kayla Elliot came off the bench to hit a pair of free throws – her only points in the game – after Morgan Koenig was fouled hard and couldn’t remain in the game and the Tigers (7-11) held off a furious fourth-quarter rally to beat the visiting Warriors (1-16) in a loser-out game. Sydni Kotschevar topped the Tigers, who led 23-13 after three quarters, with eight points and four blocked shots. Gina Palmiter paced Kootenai with 10 points. Mullan will play at Clark Fork at 6 p.m. Friday for a state berth.

Idaho 1A Division I

Lakeside (Plummer) 41, Wallace 34: Tah-wy-ah Davis scored seven of her game-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to help the Knights (10-7) stave off the visiting Miners (7-14) in a loser-out game. Lakeside advances to a winner-to-state game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeland High against the third-place team from District II.

Boys

Lewiston 46, Coeur d’Alene 45: Justin Podrabsky netted 15 points and Matthew Kalbfleisch scored 12 to guide the Bengals (9-9, 2-4) past the Vikings (13-6, 2-3) in Inland Empire League 5A action in Lewiston. Jake Matheson scored 15 and Deon Watson added 14 points for the Vikings, who outscored the Bengals 17-2 in the third quarter to lead 37-31.

District 7 1B

Wellpinit 66, Odessa 43: Drake Wynne tallied 16 points and Kennedy Seyler and Dakota Ford scored 12 apiece to power the Redskins (19-3) to a win over the visiting Tigers (8-13). Wellpinit moves on to play Almira/Coulee-Hartline at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Deer Park. Odessa will play Northport in a loser-out game at 3:45, also at Deer Park.

Nonleague

Lake City 60, Sandpoint 56: Mark Smyly had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves (11-8) past the visiting Bulldogs (6-13). Stefan Buratto scored 23 for Sandpoint.

Post Falls 63, Moscow 52: Shawn Reid totaled 19 points and eight rebounds to power the Trojans (17-2) to a road win over the Bears (13-6). Mac Stannard led Moscow with 14 points.
