Balanced Pirates cruise past L&C

David Riley scored 16 points to lead four Pirates in double figures as Whitworth beat Lewis & Clark 75-59 on Sunday in Northwest Conference action in Portland.

Eric Beal added 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, Nate Montgomery scored 11 and Felix Friedt had 10 for the Pirates (9-2, 2-0 NWC), who never trailed after taking a 3-2 lead in the second minute of the game. Whitworth built a 13-point lead at halftime and led by as many as 19 late in the second half.

Women

Micaela Cocks led six Oregon players in double figures with 22 points and the Ducks held on to beat Washington State 98-92 in Eugene, Ore., in the highest scoring game ever played between the schools.

Nia Jackson added 20 points, seven assists and five steals for Oregon, which blew a 17-point lead and overcame a five-point deficit late in the game.

April Cook and Kiki Moore led the Cougars (5-8, 0-2 Pac-10) with 24 points each. Jazmine Perkins added 15 points. Cook scored 10 points during a 16-2 run in the second half that put the Cougars up 80-75 with 6:46 to play.

•Kristi Kingma had 18 points to lead Washington to a 69-64 victory over Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.

Sarah Morton added 12 points and six assists for Washington (6-6, 1-1 Pac-10).

The Huskies scored five straight points in the closing minutes to go ahead 62-55 after Oregon State had closed within two.

•Lewis & Clark hit six straight free throws in the final 40 seconds to hang on for a 67-63 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference game in Portland.

Cassie Pilkinton and Lauren Picha each scored 13 points for the Pirates (5-6, 1-1 NWC), who rallied from a double-digit second-half deficit to close to within two points with 8 seconds left before Williams hit a pair of free throws to complete the scoring.
