Thomas ties for 2nd place

Chessey Thomas of Spokane tied for second during stroke play at the Women’s Amateur Championship on Tuesday at Clarkston Golf and Country Club.

Thomas tied with Lovelynn Guioguio – six shots behind medalist Rachel Morris.

Thomas advanced to the match play portion of the tournament. Chewelah’s Gracie Schory earned the 32nd and final spot for match play.

Football

Eastern Washington University junior running back Taiwan Jones has been named to the initial 2010 Walter Payton Award watch list.

The award is given annually to the top offensive player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. Jones rushed for 1,213 yards last season.
