Tate nailed in donut caper

Football: Seahawks rookie wide receiver Golden Tate apologized Tuesday and said he was “very embarrassed” after police in suburban Seattle gave him a warning for trespassing into a gourmet doughnut shop at 3 a.m. last weekend.

Tate said the Top Pot doughnuts store is in the bottom of the building in which he lives in Bellevue.

“Freshly baked. I made the mistake of – a buddy made the mistake going in grabbing a couple. We ate them,” Tate said.

“This is the wrong type of media I want to bring to the organization.”

Tate said police let him off with a warning.

He also called the incident a “foolish mistake.”

“But,” he added, “if you ever want maple bars, that’s the place to go.”

Getting behind the home team

Soccer: The Honduran government has approved a work schedule that allows 200,000 public employees time off the job to watch the national team play in the World Cup in South Africa.

The government has urged private enterprises to do the same.

Africo Madrid, the government minister in charge of the changes, said that employees would not have to begin work until 10 a.m. local time on June 16 when Honduras plays Chile. The match begins early in the morning, Honduran time.

Honduras faces Spain on June 21 and Switzerland on June 25.

Matches those days are scheduled to begin in the early afternoon, Honduran time. Employees will be released at 11:30 a.m.

Honduras is playing in only its second World Cup. In 1982 it failed to win a match.
