OLYMPIA – Gov. Chris Gregoire is ordering state agencies around Washington to lower their flags to half-staff next Tuesday in honor of Marine Cpl. Joshua Dumaw of the Spokane Valley.

Dumaw, 23, was killed Tuesday in Nimruz Province, Afghanistan, where he was assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, of the II Marine Expenditionary Force. Dumaw is based out of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina.

Family sources said Dumaw was killed by an improvised explosive device while securing an area in the southwestern province of Afghanistan. A West Valley High School graduate, Dumaw was married for just under a year, and his wife is expecting their first child.
