Man, 74, dies in ATV crash in North Idaho
A 74-year-old man died today in an ATV crash near the Fourth of July Pass parking lot in Kootenai County.
The man was with three other riders about 1:45 p.m. when he crashed into a gate on Forest Service Trail 800, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department. The road is about a quarter mile northeast of the parking lot and is closed to motorized vehicles.
A deputy found the victim unconscious; his heart stopped beating a short time later, according to a news release. The deputy performed CPR until the victim was transported to Kootenai Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
The man’s name will be released once his family is notified of his death. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
