Prep roundup: Shadle Park ends Indians’ season

Nick Bettinson snapped a 5-5 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning and then took the mound in the fourth, holding the North Central (4-18) to one run in four innings as Shadle Park (7-14) won 13-6 to advance to the second round of the 3A regional baseball playoffs at Shadle Park.

Tyler Pfeffer had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Highlanders, who play Hanford at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In other regional action, Jakob Vetsch allowed no runs on six hits with nine strikeouts as West Valley-Yakima scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to beat East Valley (3-18) 11-0 in Yakima. West Valley will play Mt. Spokane at 5 p.m. Friday.

District 7 2A

Ben Foster went 2 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored and was part of a combination that pitched a no-hitter as West Valley (11-6) eliminated Medical Lake (12-8) 10-0 at West Valley. The Eagles play at Cheney at 4 p.m. today. … Ryan Tacke allowed one run on three hits and Clarkston (13-5) recorded 10 runs on 12 hits to beat Colville (8-11) 10-1 at Clarkston. The Bantams play at second-seeded Pullman at 4 p.m. today.

District 7 1A

Logan Goulet had eight strikeouts while giving up just three hits and added a double and a pair of RBIs as Newport (8-11) advanced to play Lakeside today with a 6-5 win over visiting Kettle Falls (5-14).

District 7 2B

After knocking out Republic (10-9) 13-3 to start the day, Lind-Ritzville (11-8) punched its ticket to play Tuesday at Avista Stadium with an 8-5 victory over Northwest Christian (16-5) in Colbert. Izzy Valdovinos had two hits with three RBIs while earning the win for the Broncos. … Gerhard Muelheims had two doubles and three RBIs and Jordan Dickson allowed one run and struck out five in five innings of relief as St. George’s (16-5) edged Davenport (10-14) 5-4. Davenport beat Liberty (8-11) 9-4 in the earlier game to advance to play the Dragons.

District 9 2B

D.J. Brown and Flash Hodges each had three hits while combining for nine RBIs and seven runs as Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia (13-5) eliminated visiting Garfield-Palouse with a 22-3 five-inning victory. The Nighthawks will play Waitsburg-Prescott at 10 a.m. Saturday in Walla Walla after the Cardinals eliminated Liberty Christian 12-1.

District 7 1B

Cody Dillong struck out eight in four innings and added four RBIs as host Almira/Coulee-Hartline (7-7) used an 11-run third inning to beat Pateros 18-1. ACH will play St. Michael’s at 1 p.m. Friday at Northport.

Idaho 5A Region 1

Beau Kerns allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight and Lewiston (21-2) advanced to the state tournament with a 7-1 victory over Coeur d’Alene (20-9) in Lewiston. … The Vikings will play Lake City (13-10) at 4 p.m. Thursday for the final state spot from the region as the Timberwolves knocked off visiting Post Falls (3-17) 14-4 in five innings to eliminate the Trojans.

Idaho 3A District I-II

Kyle Bradbury drove in the winning run in the seventh inning and struck out 14 in seven innings as Priest River (13-10) eliminated Bonners Ferry (5-14) with a 4-3 win in Spirit Lake. … Jaden Guidry went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as St. Maries (10-13) scored nine in the first two innings to finish off Kellogg (3-15) 11-8.

Softball

Dani Wessling had a two-run double during a four-run fifth inning and Lakeland (11-10) shut out Moscow (3-18) 5-0 in the 4A Region 1 tournament in Rathdrum. The Bears play Sandpoint on Thursday.

Boys soccer

Randall Harris scored a pair of first-half goals and Nick Brown recorded eight saves as No. 6 seed West Valley (8-9) stunned No. 3 Medical Lake (12-4-1) 2-1 to eliminate the Cardinals in the District 7 2A tournament at ML. The Eagles play at Pullman at 4 p.m. Thursday. … Victor Tardelli scored three goals to give Deer Park (10-6) a 4-1 lead after the first half and then held off Clarkston (7-9-1) to win 4-3 in DP. The Stags play at Cheney at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Golf

The Lewis and Clark duo of Christian Alfaro and Peter Gullickson shot rounds of 67 and 69, respectively, to lead the field of 23 golfers who made the cut after the first round of District 8 4A tournament at MeadowWood Golf Course.

Leading the girls after the first day was Chessey Thomas of LC, who shot a 4-under-par 68 to lead teammate Megan Haase (72) and Mead’s Kristen Hansen (74). The girls’ field was narrowed to 17. Play will resume Thursday at Qualchan Golf Course with the top six boys and top six girls advancing to state.

•Andrew Roller earned medalist honors with a 72 and Brennan Stillinger shot a 73 as Coeur d’Alene scored a round of 299 to win the Idaho 5A Region I tournament in Lewiston. The Vikings advance to the state tournament alongside Lewiston, which took second with a score of 318. Also making the cut for the state tournament is Kevin Porto of Lake City, who shot a 74.

•Tyler Carlson shot a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors for Clarkston, but Colville took the team title, combining to score 396 in the Great Northern League finale at The Fairways Golf Course.

Tennis

All four top boys singles seeds remained after the opening day of the District 8 4A tournament, but falling before the quarterfinals in boys doubles at Central Valley was the No. 2 seeded team of Sam Delaney and Greg Sullivan from Lewis and Clark. In girls singles, University’s Caylee Lamm fell in the first round to Gonzaga Prep’s Lizzie Reiner, who advanced to the quarterfinals after three wins at U-Hi.

Track and field

Jared Fisher won the 200- and 400-meter runs to lead Colville to a GNL dual-meet victory over Deer Park 78-58 in Colville. The Stags won the girls dual 75-65 behind 10 wins in 11 track events.
