Colfax gets to semis

The unbeaten Colfax Bulldogs won twice Saturday at Shadle Park High School to advance to the semifinals of the State 2B tournament.

Colfax rode the arm of Alex Teade to a 7-0 loser-out victory over Soap Lake in the first game. Teade allowed just four hits in going the distance with 13 strikeouts and two walks.

The Bulldogs (24-0) dominated in the quarterfinals behind the pitching of Brandon Hoadley and rolled to an 8-2 loser-out victory over the Asotin Panthers. Hoadley allowed just two hits. He struck out 12 and walked six.

At the other 2B site in Walla Walla, Kittitas used an eight-run third inning to pull away for a 15-7 victory over the Lind-Ritzville Broncos (12-10) in a loser-out game.

In the other loser-out game, DeSales romped to an 18-1 win over the Springdale Chargers (17-4). Colfax will play DeSales at 7 p.m. Friday at Yakima in a semifinal.

1B

The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors and the Colton Wildcats will play for the State 1B title at 7 p.m. Saturday in Yakima.

ACH (13-7) opened the day with a 15-3 quarterfinal romp over the Northport Mustangs (12-11) in Medical Lake – scoring eight runs in the first inning and never looking back.

ACH’s Kye Stevens capped a five-run sixth with a grand slam to erase a 4-1 deficit en route to a 6-4 semifinal win over the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats (18-5).

Colton also won a pair of games to advance to the title game. The Wildcats opened the day with a 22-3 quarterfinal romp over Lummi at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.

Colton (12-11) rallied in the second game to score twice in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 2-1 victory over Lake Quinault.

2A

The Clarkston Bantams got off on the right foot with an 11-7 loser-out victory over River Ridge in Chehalis. But the Bantams (16-7) fell short in their second loser-out game, falling 7-3 to R.A. Long.

In the other half of the 2A bracket, Selah edged the Pullman Greyhounds (12-9) 3-1 in a loser-out game at Davis High School in Yakima.

The Cheney Blackhawks (18-4) opened with an 11-2 romp over East Valley (Yakima) in a loser-out game. Cheney’s fell in its second game of the day when Selah pulled away from a 3-3 tie with three runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth en route to a 12-4 win.

1A

Goldendale made quick work of the Chewelah Cougars (17-7) in a loser-out game in Wenatchee rolling to a 13-4 victory.

In the other half of the bracket, Seattle Christian eliminated the Lakeside Eagles (15-7) 9-1.

Idaho

Lewiston beat Capital 10-1 in the State 5A consolation final in Boise. Coeur d’Alene’s game with Rocky Mountain was canceled because of rain. The game will not be made up and the teams will split third place.

In 3A, Timberlake lost the consolation final 6-5 to South Fremont in Ontario, Ore.
