Nordstrom Rack moving to Spokane Valley

Store’s new location will be 25 percent larger

North Spokane’s Nordstrom Rack is relocating to Spokane Valley and will add up to 15 new jobs in the bargain.

After a decade at NorthTown Mall, the Nordstrom Rack will move into a 30,000-square-foot site in the Spokane Valley Plaza, the Seattle clothing retailer said.

The Spokane Valley store will reopen in October once remodeling is completed. The site was last used by Linens ‘N Things before the store closed in 2008.

Company spokeswoman Brooke White said no date has been set for closing of the NorthTown location. That will likely be a day or two before the reopening, she said.

The Rack offers discount items of the same merchandise found in Nordstrom’s stores.

With the new hires, the Valley Rack will employ roughly 60 people, said White.

The new hires will help staff a store almost 25 percent larger than the current Rack location, White added.

A Nordstrom release said the move is based on adding more shopping space and being nearer to Interstate 90.

Spokane Valley Plaza, NorthTown Mall and Spokane Valley Mall are all managed by General Growth Properties, one of the country’s largest mall landlords.

John Shasky, general manager of NorthTown Mall, said he is not ready to disclose plans for a new tenant in the store being vacated by the Rack.
