Coeur d’Alene eliminates Lake City

An opening-round playoff game against their chief rivals turned into an offensive display for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings. The Vikings dominated visiting Lake City on Friday night 45-13 to advance to the semifinals of the Idaho State 5A playoffs. Top-ranked CdA will face No. 2 Capital of Boise next Saturday. CdA’s offense struggled the previous week against the T-Wolves (6-4) in squeaking out a 19-14 win in a regular-season finale. But Friday night the Vikings surpassed last week’s point total early in the second quarter and were never challenged by the Wolves. It was CdA’s third straight win over LC. “The kids responded to that last game, and came with a new focus,” Vikings head coach Shawn Amos said. “It’s a one-week season. If you don’t show up you’re not playing anymore.” Junior quarterback Chad Chalich finished 21 of 31 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 51 yards. Senior running back Zach Keiser ran for three touchdowns. CdA led at the half 28-7. Skyview 33, Sandpoint 0: Hunter Hyde threw for 401 yards and four TDs on 23-of-30 passing as the Hawks (8-2) shut out the Bulldogs (4-6) in a State 4A game at Nampa.
