Durant pushes Thunder past Trail Blazers

NBA: Russell Westbrook scored 36 points, Kevin Durant had eight of his 34 during Oklahoma City’s decisive run in the final 5 minutes, and the Thunder beat visiting Portland 110-108 Friday night for their second win over the Trail Blazers in eight days.

Durant scored the final eight points in a 10-0 run that turned the Thunder’s five-point deficit into a 105-100 lead.

Brandon Roy scored 24 points and got the Blazers within one point three times in the final minute, but Rudy Fernandez missed a 3-pointer from the corner with 2.9 seconds left that would’ve put Portland ahead.

Jazz beat Hawks to continue hot road trip: Paul Millsap hit a corner jumper with 1:20 to play and the Utah Jazz came back from a double-digit, second-half deficit for the fourth consecutive game to beat the host Atlanta Hawks 90-86. Deron Williams’ 24 points and 10 assists paced Utah, while Atlanta was led by Joe Johnson’s 23 points.

Raptors surprise Magic, earn road win: Sonny Weems made a 3-pointer with 7.1 seconds left and the Toronto Raptors hit four free throws from there to beat the Orlando Magic 110-106 in Orlando, Fla. Andrea Bargnani led the Raptors with 27 points, and DeMar DeRozan finished with 26. Dwight Howard led the Magic with 27 points.

Fiddler has hat trick; Coyotes beat Flames

NHL: Vernon Fiddler had his first career hat trick and the Phoenix Coyotes held off the Calgary Flames 5-4 after giving up two goals in the final 49 seconds in Glendale, Ariz.

Lee Stempniak and Scottie Upshall also scored for the Coyotes. Rene Bourque, Ian White, Alex Tanguay and Tim Jackson scored for Calgary.

Kovalchuk scores in overtime for Devils: Ilya Kovalchuk scored on a power play at 3:27 of overtime to give the New Jersey Devils their first home victory of the year, 4-3 over the Edmonton Oilers in Newark, N.J. Mattias Tedenby and Alexander Vasyunov scored their first NHL goals, and Brian Rolston also connected in regulation for the Devils.

Wright, Freeman rescue Hoyas at ODU

Men’s basketball: Austin Freeman and Chris Wright each hit two 3-pointers in a late 13-2 run and No. 20 Georgetown held off Old Dominion for a 62-59 victory in Norfolk, Va.

Wright scored 19 points, Jason Clark had 18 and Freeman 17 for the Hoyas, who trailed most of the game before their senior guards found some space against Old Dominion’s stifling defense.

• Stetson topples Wake in opener: Ridge Graham had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Stetson beat Wake Forest 89-79 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Hatters never trailed in the second half in their first win over an Atlantic Coast Conference team since 1974. J.T. Terrell led Wake Forest with 26 points.

Moore, Temple outlast Seton Hall: Ramone Moore scored 14 points and No. 22 Temple held Seton Hall without a field goal for nine minutes in a 62-56 victory in the season opener for both teams in Philadelphia.

Thatcher takes four- shot lead at Disney

Golf: Roland Thatcher eased through the toughest of the two courses at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic, shooting a 9-under 63 for a 16-under 128 and four-shot lead over Chris Stroud (70) and Brian Gay (65) at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Robert Garrigus shot a second-round 7-under 65 for a total of 133. Jerry Kelly (69) highlights a group of six players tied at 9-under 135.

Woods makes up no ground at Australian Masters: Tiger Woods failed to make up any ground in the third round of the Australian Masters with an even-par 71 in Melbourne.

Woods missed three putts inside 5 feet on his opening six holes. He was at 1-under 212.

Adam Bland finished at even par but still managed to pad his lead to three shots. Bland was at 10 under par 132, chased by Daniel Gaunt and Andre Stolz at 7 under.

• Creamer leads Lorena Ochoa Invitational: U.S. Women’s Open champion Paula Creamer shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Norway’s Suzann Pettersen in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Pettersen had a 65, matching Meena Lee for the best round of the day. Stacy Lewis (69) was third at 8 under.

Edwards wins pole at Phoenix International

Miscellany: Carl Edwards won the pole at Phoenix International Raceway in qualifying with a track-record lap at Avondale, Ariz.

Edwards ran 136.389 mph for the top starting spot in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race, breaking the record of 135.854 set by Ryan Newman in 2004.

AJ Allmendinger qualified second with a lap of 136.250, and Kurt Busch was third at 136.240.

The three championship contenders will start fairly close together, with Denny Hamlin qualifying 17th, four-time Phoenix winner Jimmie Johnson in 21st and Kevin Harvick at 29th.

• Bowyer wins, Bodine earns Trucks title: Todd Bodine earned his second NASCAR Trucks season title, finishing well behind race winner Clint Bowyer in the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix. Bodine entered the race with a 230-point lead over Aric Almirola and finished 12th to wrap up the title with one race left.

Bowyer beat Kyle Busch to the line by 1.039 seconds. Johnny Sauter finished third, followed by Matt Crafton and Almirola.

Savchenko, Szolkowy lead pairs at Skate America: Two-time world champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy led the field after the pairs short program at Skate America in Portland.

The German duo finished in front of Canadians Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch.

Savchenko and Szolkowy finished with a 63.99, followed by Moore-Towers and Moscovitch with 61.64, and Americans Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett at 58.49.

U.S. blanks Sweden in women’s hockey: At St. John’s, Newfoundland, the United States defeated Sweden 4-0 in the semifinals of the Four Nations Cup. Hilary Knight, Kacey Bellamy, Monique Lamoureaux-Kolls and Erika Lawler scored for the U.S.
