Prep roundup: Bengals clinch 1st state berth

Kellsi Parson scored twice Wednesday as Lewiston defeated visiting Coeur d’Alene 3-1 in the 5A Region I girls soccer semifinals to clinch its first berth to the state tournament.

Jolynn O’Kelley scored the first goal for the Bengals (7-1-5), who will host Lake City at noon Saturday in the regional championship. Keira Turren scored for the Vikings (5-8-2), whose season ended.

Elsewhere, Alyssa Allen and Taylor Hoffman scored 3 minutes apart in the first half as Lake City (7-5-3) qualified for state with a 2-0 win that eliminated visiting Post Falls (5-5-5).

Greater Spokane League: Rachel Jones, Alli Floyd, Shelby Hunter and Alyssa Lloyd scored during a 4-1 shootout to give Mt. Spokane (7-4, 3-3) a 1-0 win over visiting North Central (2-8, 2-4). … Elsewhere, Lexi Clark set up Jade Faraca for the winning goal at 44 minutes as University (5-3, 3-3) took a 2-1 win over visiting Ferris (5-4-1, 2-4). … Lindsey Pangborn had two goals and one assist as Mead (11-0-1, 6-0) geared up for Friday’s first-place showdown with Lewis and Clark with a 7-0 win over visiting Rogers (1-7, 0-6). … Madisen Stewart assisted on the second goal and scored the third as LC (12-0-1, 6-0) posted a 5-1 win over visiting Shadle Park (7-4, 2-4) at Hart Field. … Holly Miller, Elena Townsend and Paige Ellingson scored to give Central Valley (9-2, 4-2) a 3-0 win at Gonzaga Prep (8-4, 2-4).

Idaho 3A District I-II: Reserve Coco Roberts left-footed a shot to the far-right corner just before halftime and Kellogg (4-2) held on for a 1-0 win that eliminated Orofino at Lakeland High in Rathdrum. Marah Ashcraft posted the shutout for the Wildcats, who will meet Timberlake at 4 p.m. today at Lakeland for the championship and a state berth. The loser will advance to Saturday’s state play-in game at Lewiston. … Also at Lakeland, Sam Simmons accounted for three goals and one assist while powering Timberlake (5-2-1) to a 4-0 win that ousted Bonners Ferry.

Boys soccer

Idaho 4A Region I: Moscow (8-8-1) overcame a 2-0 deficit with back-to-back second-half goals by Kyle Pederson and Kaydin McGreavey, then won the shootout 4-3 to clinch a state berth with a 3-2 championship-match win that eliminated host Sandpoint (10-6-1). Joab Logan and Tanner Williams scored to give the Bulldogs their 2-0 edge.

Idaho 3A District I-II: Ian Heath’s second consecutive hat trick led St. Maries (7-7-3) to a 4-0 win over Orofino at Lakeland High in Rathdrum. Judd Sempel recorded the shutout for the Lumberjacks. St. Maries plays for the championship at 4 p.m. today at Lakeland against Bonners Ferry. The winner will advance to state and the loser will advance to a state play-in game Saturday at Lewiston. … Also at Lakeland High, Alex Mendez scored twice during the first 18 minutes to power Bonners Ferry (14-3) to a 6-0 win that eliminated Priest River. Andre Zarate added three assists for BF.

Volleyball

Greater Spokane League: Kayleigh Valley finished with 14 kills and three blocks in leading University (3-4) to a 3-0 win at Rogers. Jordan Schmerer added 14 digs and two aces for the Titans. Sydney Roberts led the Pirates (0-6) with 14 assists and two aces.
