In brief: Stevens released by Buccaneers

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens has been released by the team after being arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

The Bucs made the move Monday, two days after police said the 30-year-old former Washington Husky and Seattle Seahawk was pulled over in his pickup truck for loud music and an officer smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.

Stevens sat out Sunday’s 18-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Police said 38 grams of marijuana was found in the truck. Stevens was taken to jail and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The ninth-year pro had three catches for 43 yards and no touchdowns this season.

Yard Dawgz won’t play in 2011

Arena football: The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz won’t participate in the Arena Football League next season.

Owner Phil Miller released a letter Monday that says he’s been unsuccessful in his attempts to find investors for the franchise. He said he decided not to field a team in 2011 based on “numerous factors.”

The competing Indoor Football League announced that it would bring a team to Oklahoma City next season with a different ownership group. A formal announcement is planned next week.

The Yard Dawgz were formerly an arenafootball2 franchise before moving up to the AFL when it was re-created last season. The AFL champion Spokane Shock played at Oklahoma City last May, winning 68-63. Official attendance was 4,415.

Area stock headed to NFR

Rodeo: Bucking stock for the National Finals Rodeo was announced Monday and Big Bend and Flying Five rodeo companies, co-owned by Don Hutsell of Ritzville and Sonny Riley of Pomeroy, is sending eight horses.

Surprisingly they’re all saddle broncs, meaning the local string was shut out in barebacks and bulls.

Headed to the NFR in Las Vegas in early December are Feature Attraction, No Dice and Kool Toddy from Big Bend and Broken Saddles, Wind Chims, Spring Blues, Spring Planting and Sundance from Flying Five.

Kool Toddy tied for third in voting for Saddle Bronc of the Year.
