Police chase of stolen car ends with felon’s arrest

By The Spokesman-Review

A Spokane man convicted of car theft last week is back in jail after police say he led them on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle late Wednesday.

A police K-9 tracked Tyray H. Munter, 23, after police say the convicted felon abandoned the car in the area of North Stone Street and East Francis Avenue after fleeing a police stop near North Crestline Street and East Empire Avenue at 11:10 p.m.

Police ended the search after less than two minutes because Munter was driving dangerously, according to a news release. Citizens told police what direction he’d fled.

Munter was booked into jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police.

He’d pleaded guilty Aug. 25 to second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission and use of drug paraphernalia and was credited for 43 days served in jail, records show.

Maybe I missed something which flew overhead at 28,000 feet!

The report stated: “He’d pleaded guilty Aug. 25 to second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission and use of drug paraphernalia and was credited with 43 days served in jail, records show.”

So this is the second charge of motor vehicle theft Tyray had been involved with, and already appeared in court August 25th on a former charge, huh? Where did the “43 days served in jail” come from? From August 25th to this date of 2 September, is only 7 days. I don’t understand.

I imagine he wasn’t able to bail out, and had been in jail 43 days, when he plead guilty. The 43 days he’d already served paid his debt for that crime.

I’m ok with the paraphernalia charge being dropped, but auto theft should be a hangin’ crime.
