Handle on Business: Discount store to offer overstocks
A wide variety of items at as little as half the retail prices will be available at Coeur d’Alene Discount when it opens in mid-September at 1515 Northwest Blvd.
The attractive 5,500-square-foot store with a railed balcony housed Von Nash Interiors before it moved to Fourth Street and originally was the home of a Budweiser distributorship.
The always-changing inventory is from items that were overstocked, discontinued or from original damaged containers from large stores. Included are sporting goods, electronics, garden and building supplies, housewares and holiday items.
“We’ll back items completely,” said Scott Ralston, who owns the store with his wife, Deborah. “Just the boxes have been torn up. You have to take care of customers or you’ll lose them, and everyone they tell.”
Originally from Coeur d’Alene and Yucaipa, Calif., they came to North Idaho from California in 2008. They’ll have three employees. Hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
TV retailer expanding, adding 30 employees
The addition of a home security and safety division will enable Discount Communications to add about 30 employees to the satellite TV retailer’s call center in Coeur d’Alene.
The headquarters space in their building at 214 W. Sunset Ave. will grow from 4,000 to 6,000 square feet to accommodate about 70 employees. A job fair and continuing interviews were conducted in the past week.
Discount Communications will provide new home security and safety customers with free equipment and installation of control panels, alarms, motion detectors, cameras and other equipment and services for monitoring people with health problems. Phone (208) 292-2244.
Harmony House opens third residence
Harmony House Assisted Living has added its third residence with a 6,300-square-foot house for 16 residents at 9941 Maple St. in Hayden. The company also has houses at 9967 Maple St. and 454 W. Lacey Ave., Hayden.
With 45 residents, Harmony House employs 21 people with 24-hour services for structured living and help with medications. Costs are primarily paid through Social Security and Medicaid.
