Exercised The Los Angeles Clippers exercised their fourth-year contract option on guard Eric Gordon and their third-year option on forward Blake Griffin. Both players are secured through the 2011-12 season with the moves announced.

Recovering Oregon State Coach Mike Riley said playmaker James Rodgers will be held out of practice this week, following the NCAA protocol for dealing with concussions, but he should be able to play against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Rodgers suffered a concussion in the Beavers’ 37-24 loss last Saturday at Boise State.

• Michigan State basketball guard Korie Lucious is expected to be out 2 to 6 weeks after having arthroscopic surgery for a small meniscus tear in his left knee. Lucious averaged 5.6 points last season.

• A spokeswoman for Hall of Fame offensive lineman Rayfield Wright says the former Dallas Cowboys player is doing well after a heart attack in Fort Worth, Texas.

Resigned Major League Baseball’s chief operating officer Bob DuPuy resigned from the position following 8 1/2 years as commissioner Bud Selig’s top aide. The move is effective Oct. 31, and Selig doesn’t intend to replace him.

Retired Executive Gene Orza, 64, will retire from the baseball players’ association next spring after 26 years with the union. He will work through March 31.

Out U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters will miss next month’s China Open because of an infection on her right foot.

Died Former All-American Stan Heath, a quarterback at Nevada who finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1948, died after a battle with cancer. He was 83. Heath died at his home in Jesup, Ga., on Sunday. That’s the same day Nevada cracked the Associated Press Top 25 football poll for the first time since Heath’s 1948 team.

• Standout defensive back Don Doll, who was part of Detroit’s 1952 NFL championship team before coaching the Lions, died. He was 84. The Lions said that Doll died last Wednesday in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. A cause of death was not stated.
