Letter: Cougars fans lack sportsmanship

I attended the WSU-Oklahoma State NIT game in Pullman two weeks ago.   It was very impressive the amount of Crimson and Grey worn by everybody.  It was a good-size crowd despite an 8:45 p.m. start on a Monday night.  There was great student support, also.  It was a fantastic game that went the Cougs’ way!

However, I was very disappointed with how the OSU team and coach were not accepted onto the floor for their introduction.  When OSU players were being introduced, the WSU student section turned its back to the court. Cute, just like GU Kennel Club. It’s overdone, but whatever.

What bothered me was when each player’s name was announced the student section shouted he  “SUCKS.”  Especially troubling was when the OSU coach’s name was announced he also got a loud “SUCKS” from the student section.

Here you have a team that just found out it had to get to Pullman for a late-night game and this is the welcome it gets?   Come on students, show more respect for your opponent. The WSU players on the court certainly do. I was proud of them.
