Letter: Lack of respect shown

The talented young men playing basketball at WSU are rewarded in advance for their abilities with scholarships from the Washington State institution with funds that are competing with other programs and academics.

In the real world, rewards are often diminished if performance is not met. Often, with substance abuse, people are removed from their routine jobs or prestigious positions for not following policy rules. Maybe talented sports players should be required to sign contracts that will nullify their compensation if they disregard the rules outlined for them to be role models and representatives of the state of Washington institutions. Of course, this would not be good for sports recruiting programs but might demand the recipients of those scholarships be a bit more respectful of what they are receiving.
