Hitting his stride: Chad Kauppi, 31, of Spokane, figured it was time to run his first Bloomsday race this year. On Friday, he passed through the intersection of Broadway and Nettleton as he covered the 7.45-mile course in a practice run, also for the first time. Kauppi's goal is to finish in under one hour. The 35th annual race, set for May 1, is expected to have 57,000 registered runners, with some 53,000 already tallied as of Friday, says race director Don Kardong. Online sign-up continues through Sunday. (Dan Pelle)
