Fire Station 5 holding open house on renaming

The Spokane Valley Fire Department is planning another open house today, this one at Station 5, 15510 E. Marietta Ave. The department is on a campaign to rename all its stations so they have names instead of numbers.

Last week’s open house was at Station 4 in Otis Orchards. Predictably, many people suggested it be called the Otis Orchards Fire Station. But Station 5 is just off Sullivan Road on the edge of the Industrial Park and doesn’t present an obvious name. So residents are being asked to stop by the station between 1 and 4 p.m. today to offer suggestions. Sullivan Fire Station? Maybe something referring to the Industrial Park? You help decide.

People will also be able to get a tour of the station and meet Mako the arson dog. The department’s training facility, including a burn tower, is right next door as well.
