Boise State’s Petersen on Penn State list

Thu., Dec. 8, 2011

A hint for all those seeking insights into Penn State’s search for Joe Paterno’s successor: Look more closely at graduation rates than winning percentages. Using those criteria, as well as information from a source familiar with the search committee’s deliberation, it seems clear that Boise State’s Chris Petersen is high on the Nittany Lions’ wish list. Relatively young, consistently successful, clean-cut, and taint-free, Petersen, 47, also heads a football program with a graduation rate, according to an analysis, second only to Penn State’s. “He’s the kind of guy who interests them,” said the source, who requested anonymity. “I don’t know if they’ve talked with him yet, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t look at him thoroughly.”
