Senior, freshman lead Bears past Bullpups

A senior and a freshman combined for 41 points to lead the visiting Central Valley Bears past the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 68-54 in Greater Spokane League girls basketball Friday.

Brooke Gallaway, the senior, had a game-high 21 points, and freshman Madison Hovren had 20 as the Bears (2-0 overall, 2-0 GSL) opened a 38-20 lead by halftime and were never threatened.

The Stockton sisters – Lindsay, a senior, and Laura, a freshman – scored 10 points apiece to lead the Bullpups (1-1, 1-1).

University 57, Shadle Park 46: The visiting Titans (4-0, 2-0) hit six 3-pointers in the first half on their way to opening a big lead over the Highlanders (2-1, 1-1).

Hallie Gennett led U-Hi with 20 points. She made three 3-pointers. Shadle’s usual leading scorer, Aleisha Hathaway, struggled, making just one basket – a 3-pointer late in the first half.

Shadle attempted 17 3-pointers in the first half but made just two. The Highlanders also committed 28 turnovers.

U-Hi built its biggest lead at 55-38 before Shadle tightened the margin late.

Mt. Spokane 58, Ferris 51: Ashlee Pedersen went 4 for 4 from the foul line late as the visiting Wildcats (2-2, 1-1) held off the Saxons (0-2, 0-2).

Brooke Reilly led Mt. Spokane with 15 points and eight rebounds, Megan Ulias had 12 points and Pedersen and Lexi Hereford had 10 apiece. Brittney Johnson led Ferris with a game-high 26, eight rebounds and eight steals. She was 6 of 10 from 3-point range.

Lewis and Clark 64, Mead 41: The Tigers (1-1, 1-1) were torrid from the free-throw line, making 27 of 30 as they handled the visiting Panthers (0-3, 0-2).

University of Utah-bound Nakia Arquette led LC with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Point guard Devyn Galland, who is headed to Oregon, left the game in the first quarter after sustaining a knee injury. The extent of the injury is unknown.

Freshman Michaela Kay had 10 points and four assists stepping in for Galland.

LC used full-court pressure in the first quarter to open a 20-4 lead.

Jasmine Parker led Mead with 11 points.

North Central 64, Rogers 28: Sophomore Brianna King had 14 points, four assists and two steals to lead the Indians (2-2, 2-0) over the visiting Pirates (1-2, 0-2).

Jacklyn Bordner came off the bench to score 12 points and grab eight rebounds for NC. Teammate Kalen Via had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Jasmin Andrews led Rogers with eight points.
