NIC, Walsh offer online degrees

North Idaho College students will be able to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree in business from Walsh College in Michigan, the two schools announced Tuesday.

The Idaho students will be able to transfer up to 82 credits toward a bachelor’s degree offered online by Walsh, which has 4,600 students on two Michigan campuses, three Detroit university centers and on the Web.

A Walsh spokesman said the college has several such agreements with other junior colleges, most in Michigan, but NIC is the first school in the West where students will be able to enroll.

Students who meet grade-point requirements will be able to enroll in Walsh’s Fast-Track program, which leads to an MBA degree in five years.

NIC spokeswoman Stacy Hudson said the college has numerous agreements like that negotiated with Walsh. Business is among the top four majors at the college, she said, and advisers will add Walsh to the list of potential matches for students who want to continue their education past an associate’s degree.

Idaho students will probably find less expensive options at in-state colleges and universities, Hudson said.

Walsh representatives will be in Coeur d’Alene Feb. 28 at NIC Room LKH from noon to 1 p.m. for a student information session.
